Mid October will see Yann Polewka offer up the ‘Promised Love’ EP, backed by remixes from St. David and Garrett David and coming via the UK imprint Fresh Take Records.
Yann Polewka is a French producer and DJ and on half of the duo EARL alongside Evenn, across the past decade he’s unveiled numerous EP’s for the likes of Raw Soul, La Fête, Cardiology and more as well as maintain a steady presence on the DJ circuit of his home turf. Here, we Yann joining the roster of Fresh Take Records coming out of the Edinburgh, Scotland and home to material from artists such as Berzingue, Easy Peelers, Denyl Brook and Brooklyn Baby among others.
Leading the EP is the original mix of title-track ‘Promised Love’, a peak time dance floor workout employing classic house tropes with a bouncy piano line, swinging drums, stab led bass, sax licks and a soaring vocal hook uttering the track’s title.
‘Lose Control’ follows and shifts into more loop-led deeper realms with a shuffled rhythm, choppy stab sequences and tension building strings, underpinned by a sporadic soulful vocal chant.
The final original ‘Harmony’ comes next, a cinematic rave-tinged journey through bumpy breaks, bubbling arpeggios and ethereal strings.
Theory Of Swing founder St. David’s ‘NYC Stompin’ Mix’) of Promised Love follows next, employing fragments of the original to merge an amalgamation of stuttering vocals and squelchy bass licks alongside airy textures, pianos and a raw, crunchy rhythm section.
Lastly, Chicago’s Garrett David rounds out the release with his twist on ‘Lose Control’, channelling the soul of his home turf he twists the original into a jacking seven-minute journey through twitchy synths, intricately programmed percussion and a dynamic, ever-evolving layout.
